Silicon Space, a longtime San Diego maker of Web software, has been purchased by Dataskill for an undisclosed price.
The combined company will have 55 to 60 workers, doubling its staff. Revenue is expected to reach $10 million to $15 million combined, said Nigel Hook, chief executive of Dataskill, also of San Diego.
Silicon Space, founded in 1996, is perhaps best known for a spinoff. It created a search engine marketing firm called Coveria – formerly SEM Director – which has raised more than $20 million in venture capital funding since it was founded in 2006.
Dataskill, a 25-year-old company, makes custom software for behind-the-curtain Web site functions, such as processing transactions. The merger of the two companies will help shave costs and allow Dataskill to sell more services to its clients, which include IBM, Amazon.com and Smart & Final, Hook said.
There were some layoffs at Silicon Space before the merger, said Hook, who will run the combined company. He didn't know the exact number. Silicon Space CEO Curt Nelson, who said he was looking for a “liquidity event,” will serve on Dataskill's board of advisers.
