Aztecs close in on record

UNION-TRIBUNE

SDSU's softball team won its third consecutive one-run game with a 2-1 win over MWC foe New Mexico yesterday at SDSU.

The Aztecs (40-15, 12-5) are one win shy of tying the school record for wins.

SDSU scored both runs in the third and Christina Ross gave up just five hits in a complete-game win.

Track and field

The UCSD women won their fourth consecutive CCAA championship at Cal State L.A. as Whitney Johnson was named Most Outstanding Athlete, Kelly Fogarty was named Freshman of the Year and Darcy Ahner was named the CCAA's Coach of the Year. The Tritons men's team was third as Chico State won.

Baseball

Host UCSD split a CCAA doubleheader with Cal State Monterey Bay, winning the first game 11-1 behind pitcher Guido Knudson. UCSD (41-13, 25-10) fell 8-4 in the second game.

Tennis

No. 23 UCSD beat visiting No. 32 Cal Poly Pomona in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship 5-0.
