Binn, 36, who has played in 223 games in his 14 seasons, was entering the final year of his contract. Now he will almost certainly finish his career here.

All three of the people who touch the ball on the kicking teams are locked up for at least the next four seasons. Kicker Nate Kaeding is signed through 2012, and punter Mike Scifres through '11.

“We think he's very important,” GM A.J. Smith said. “We think he still can play. We have the Binn-Scifres-Kaeding combination. We want to keep that going.”

The Chargers are attempting to sign several players who will be unrestricted free agents in the next three years.
