Broadcaster Pat Summerall recovering from surgery

ASSOCIATED PRESS

3:46 p.m. June 20, 2008

DALLAS – Sports broadcaster Pat Summerall was recovering Friday from emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding, his wife said.

Cheri Summerall said her 78-year-old husband was resting comfortably Friday in a Dallas-area hospital. Doctors told her that a new medicine he had recently started taking caused a reaction that induced the bleeding.

The surgery was Thursday.

“He has really turned the corner,” Cheri Summerall said in a story Friday on The Dallas Morning News' Web site. “The doctors are thrilled with Pat's progress. We are expecting a full recovery.”

Summerall, a former NFL kicker and lineman, underwent a liver transplant four years ago and hip replacement surgery in January.
