La Jolla Country Day basketball player Janae Fulcher was selected second-team All-State yesterday by CalHiSports.com.
The 6-foot-3 senior, who signed with Arizona State, led the Torreys to the Southern California Regional title, averaging 17.9 points and 9.9 rebounds.
Cathedral Catholic junior Victoria Lippert was named All-Division III. Fulcher, LJCD senior Dominique Conners, Bishop's junior Gizelle Studevant and Francis Parker senior Adelle Walton were All-Division IV.
Lippert and Mount Miguel's Danesha Williamson were named All-Junior. Eastlake's Cheyenne Curley-Payne, Patrick Henry's Emily Osga and Studevant were second-team All-Junior.
Fighting steroid abuse
“The Dangers of Anabolic Steroids in High School Athletics,” a one-hour assembly focusing on the dangers of steroid abuse, will be conducted today from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Hoover High.
It's one of 10 tour stops put on by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency to present information to high school students regarding the dangers and long-term health impact of anabolic steroid use.
Speakers include James Collins, Chargers trainer; Sgt. Phil Hubb of the San Diego Police Department; and Hoover Athletic Director Ron Lardizabal.
